Celebrating the Strength, Confidence and Complexities of the Female Spirit

As a young girl growing up in the South, I remember warm summer nights sipping sweet tea on the porch as my mother and other women talked about life, love and even politics. It seemed as if the fireflies danced around their laughter and even though it was that defiant era of the sixties, there was something magical in their liberation.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and meet amazing women from countries who’s cultures were foreign to me, but their capacity for life was the same as those southern women of my youth.

I’ve been blessed with a library of inspiration for my work in figurative sculpture and a creative outlet where I can celebrate the beautiful dichotomies of women. I have realized that whether from the Carolinas or Kuwait, women share a common story. We are a delightful tension of complexities, sensuality and vulnerabilities balanced with the sobriety and strength of our convictions, which seem as limitless as the stars.

I am therefore drawn to creating women whose images, though graceful and flowing, are often disproportionate and out of symmetry.  They are perfectly empowered in their imperfect forms and that’s what is so alluring to me; it's what makes life exhilarating, unpredictable and unique!

When I am sculpting, I live in an alternate universe where whatever dash of divinity we are blessed with becomes a canvas of expression proposing thought between the visual aspect of a piece and the inner "essence" it implies.  It's that beautiful, harmonious “thing” that is the connection between us all - art.

I offer this part of me to bond to you in some small but essential way ~
